STAR WARS Zero Company Character Creation

You create Hawks at the start of a campaign and can build Custom Operators later at the Den. Hawks begins with six species choices, while custom recruits have a wider pool of eleven origins.

Creation options reviewed September 3, 2026

Good to know: most build and appearance choices can change later. Permadeath and Beskar Mode are campaign settings chosen before character creation and remain fixed.

What Can You Choose for Hawks?

Hawks can be Human, Togruta, Twi'lek, Zabrak, Mirialan, or Devaronian at the start. The supplied guide also lists appearance, sex or gender, name, one of eight standard Specializations, one of four weapon classes, and two voice options.

Hawks' history as the former captain of the 100th Clone Company is fixed. Visual creation changes how the player character looks and sounds, but does not replace that authored background.

How Are Custom Operators Different?

Custom recruits add Weequay, Rodian, Ovissian, Neimoidian, and Clone to the six Hawks origins, making eleven. The supplied guide says Clone recruits unlock after a story point, so the pool begins at ten during an initial campaign.

You can set their appearance, sex, voice, name, editable backstory, standard Specialization, weapon class, and personality. Personality affects how that Operator votes during Dilemmas.

Do Species Change Stats?

The supplied material says species and faction do not provide better weapon proficiency. Appearance and outfits are presentation choices. Specialization, Talent, weapon, and Focus Point choices control how an Operator plays.

Any standard Specialization can pair with any of the four weapon classes. A Sharpshooter is not forced to use a Longarm Blaster, and a Soldier is not forced to carry a Repeater.

Which Classes and Weapons Are Available?

The eight standard Specializations are Assault, Gunslinger, Heavy, Medic, Scoundrel, Scout, Sharpshooter, and Soldier. The four weapon classes in the supplied creation material are Longarm Blaster, Blaster Pistol, Repeater, and Blaster Rifle.

EA's supplied guidance suggests Soldier or Assault for players new to turn-based tactics, Sharpshooter for long-range combat, Assault or Gunslinger for mobility, Scout or Scoundrel for planning, and Medic for squad support. These are starting suggestions rather than permanent rules.

The full creator showcase also shows that cosmetic pools vary by origin. Human-like species share many hair and facial options, while other origins have species-specific markings, horns, eyes, or head tendrils. Clone customization is more limited but includes armor paint choices.

What Can You Change Later?

At the Personnel facility, you can change standard Specializations, Talents, weapons, and Focus Point allocation at no cost. At the Customization facility, you can revisit species and appearance for Hawks and custom Operators.

The supplied guide says authored-character Talents and Bond Cross Training choices stay fixed. It also says a second Specialization becomes available after Cycle 18.

Can You Create Astromech Droids?

Astromechs use a separate droid builder rather than the humanoid species list. The Droid Repair Bay at the Den's Upgrade Facility is required first.

Video material shows selectable head, body, leg, and color options, plus a name, editable background, and a choice between steadfast and mischievous personalities. The available visual pool is narrower than the full humanoid creator.

Which Choices Are Permanent?

Permadeath and Beskar Mode are selected on the Difficulty Settings screen before creation and cannot be changed during that campaign. Beskar Mode commits the run to a single save without manual saving.

The source material disagrees elsewhere about New Game+ availability, so this page does not rely on later-playthrough unlock claims. The initial Hawks and Custom Operator options above are sufficient to answer the core creation question.

Sources and Limits

This guide uses the supplied Zero Command creation page, the detailed creator video, and Epic Games' operator guide. It leaves out creator options not shown or named in those materials and does not infer stat bonuses from species appearance.
